The Tillikum Bench explores the relationship between visual mass and transparency.

A deeply torched solid oak seat is suspended on polished clear acrylic supports, creating the impression that the bench is floating within a space. The result is a restrained architectural object that balances warmth, texture, and lightness.

The torched finish is achieved through a traditional burning process inspired by Shou Sugi Ban, enhancing grain texture while producing a rich dark tone with subtle variation.

Designed by Kirk Van Ludwig and handcrafted in Canada, the Tillikum Bench is suited to entryways, hallways, bedrooms, living spaces, and hospitality interiors where sculptural simplicity is desired without visual heaviness.

Each piece is made to order using sustainably sourced hardwood and finished in natural oil and wax to preserve depth and tactile character.

Simply use a damp microfibre cloth. We recommend Osmo wash & care to retain lustre. Avoid soap cleaners, do not use glass cleaners on acrylic furniture.
